What is Workers’ Compensation?

Workers’ compensation refers to the practice that if an employee is injured at work their employer provides compensation or benefits to help the employee. According to California’s Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), the injury could have occurred from one incident or multiple repeated exposures.

Additionally, the benefits one can receive can include medical care, temporary disability benefits, permanent disability benefits, supplemental disability benefits, and death benefits. A workers’ compensation claim should be filled out through the injured person’s employer anytime a workplace related injury has occurred.

If you have been injured and are unsure about how to file a claim, we recommend talking to your closest supervisor, your company Human Resources Department, or recommend checking your company manual for more information.

After your employer is notified, they will tell you what the next steps are to file your claim and hopefully receive your treatment.
